If I had to say what would be the core or foundation of this blog it would be self-belief. There is a good source of personal power that comes when we believe in ourselves. Belief can push aside our weaknesses and the things that we may struggle with and turn those weaknesses into strengths. Belief is that power that helps you achieve the things that you wish to accomplish. Believing in yourself is so important to obtain for you to improve and grow as an individual.

People undertake personal growth and self-improvement for many number of reasons. Whether that is to learn something new, develop a new skill or trait, overcoming and changing a bad habit or getting over a mistake. No matter the reason for why you want to improve, if you want to accomplish those things you must first believe in yourself that you can. Without a sense of self-belief, the chances are you will not do it. You will not succeed and more than likely you will quit. You need to discover that there is power within you that comes from believing in yourself. Wouldn’t you agree that the greatest achievements in your own life came by product of believing in yourself? Because you believed you could, you were able to do it. Even the things that bless us today, are from someone or a group of people who believed it could be done. If you act on that same principle of self-belief that has empowered millions of lives, you can accomplish literally anything.

There is no trick. There is no method or steps. This is not a gimmick. It’s all self-belief and it starts with you! You are the one who has to do decide, whether you will do it and believe in yourself or whether you will not. It starts with you. You must believe that you can do the things that you want to achieve. Believe in yourself and believe that you can.

You need to let fear go. Push fear aside. Fear will keep you from believing in yourself and fear will keep you from accomplishing your goals. Fear prevents self-belief. Fear stops you from doing great and mighty things. How many times in your life have you had an idea for an invention or something new? Countless times, right? What happens? Did you do it? And if you didn’t do it, what happened? You went to a store or read something online and you found out months or years later, that the invention or idea that you had was accomplished by somebody else. What stopped you from pursuing that idea? Fear! I think it is safe to assume that fear is what prevented you.

You thought that you weren’t good enough.

You weren’t smart enough.

You thought to yourself I don’t have the resources, money or time.

So, you let fear stop you and that inspiration left you and found someone else. Maybe it would have played out different had you push fear aside and just believed in yourself and in your abilities and capabilities. Now, I don’t want to sound preachy, because I fall into this too. Many times, I have let fear control the outcome, but I have learned and re-learned the importance of self-belief and how it can work miracles in your life.

Never underestimate the importance of self-belief, because it can literally transform your life. Empower yourself. Have a willingness to accept and acknowledge your weaknesses, but be determined to turn them into strengths. If you want to change and if you want to grow you first have to believe. Believe in yourself and remember it starts with you!

Don’t Let Your Mistakes Keep You From Achieving Your Dreams

sandis-helvigs-89957

Stop dwelling on your mistakes. Who cares if you’ve screwed up, hasn’t everybody? I know too many people (I’ve fallen into this category) who dwell on their mistakes. You’re going to make mistakes, get over it! Learn from your mistakes and move on. Don’t continue to sit there and think that you have failed, you only fail when you quit trying. Don’t think that you’ve missed opportunities to change your life, each second, each minute, and each hour of each day is an opportunity for you to turn it all around. Don’t fear failure, fear stops a lot of people from reaching their true potential and it keeps people away from achieving marvelous things.

Don’t think that you’ve missed opportunities to change your life, each second, each minute, and each hour of each day is an opportunity for you to turn it all around. Don’t fear failure, fear stops a lot of people from reaching their true potential and it keeps people away from achieving marvelous things.

Don’t be that person who lives with the mantra of, ‘woulda, coulda, shoulda!’ Those people are always looking back and thinking of what could have been had they not quit and give up on their dreams and aspirations. The world has too many of these kinds of people. Be better than that. Never be afraid of taking the first step. Keep trying. If you keep stumbling, pick yourself up and try again.

Doers make mistakes. So be a doer. As John Wooden once said, “If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not doing anything.”

Don’t let your mistakes bring you down. Don’t be ashamed. Shame is such a negative tool that will always work against us and tempt us to give up. Too often I think people give up on a task or a dream too soon because it gets difficult or you don’t seem to see the results that you want. Quitting seems to be the easy way out, you let fear creep in to speak to you and it makes you question yourself and your abilities.

‘Why am I even doing this?’

‘What is the point?’

‘Why should I even try? Someone else can do it better.’ Or, ‘I’m not good enough.’

Those voices of fear and shame always want to point out our mistakes in hoping to keep us from becoming great and doing great things.

Life is a gift. Life is short, life has many challenges. Don’t let your mistakes and shortcomings add to the pile of life stress. Choose to move on. Choose to be determined. Choose to never quit. Choose to keep going. Choose to be happy and choose to feel good.

You don’t need a reason to feel happy, you can feel it at any time simply because you’re alive!

“The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry out their dream.”- Les Brown

Don’t let your mistakes keep you from achieving your dreams. Achieve your dreams. Don’t quit. Stay the course and keep at it. Don’t quit. Stay the course and keep at it.

You only fail when you quit trying.

You Don’t Know.

As a young person, you’re constantly thinking about the future and what the future holds for you. At least that’s how I am. I find that I am always thinking about the future and wishing it could be now. I get impatient with waiting for the future and even when I don’t have those impatient moments, I can’t help but want those future events that I have in mind to just happen already.

See, as humans, we do not like waiting. Do we? Especially nowadays. We are seriously spoiled when it comes to the toys and gadgets we have today. We can get any information in an instant with our phones, tablets, laptops, and computers. If we are hungry and want food quickly, we have fast food (which I wouldn’t recommend, unless it’s Dell Taco). Literally, almost everything is available to us in an instant, except one thing. Time.

Lately, I have made a decision to just let those thoughts go and not worry about the future, but live fully in the present. As I made this decision I am reminded of an experience I had a couple of years ago, when my wife and I were able to sit down with President Henry B. Eyring, the first counselor in the Presidency of The LDS Church.
As we met with him, he leaned forward on his desk, looked me in eyes and asked,

“Ben, tell me your life story?”

I started to tell him about my schooling and what I was majoring in. My background on who I was, what I did and what my future plans were. Upon finishing he smiled with this really big smiled and chuckled and said

“You don’t know what you’re going to do. You don’t know.”

I was shocked by that comment and thought, excuse me? For real? You’re going to tell me, that I don’t know? I was so confused. He followed by saying, “No one knows what they’re going to do with their life. You just don’t know what will happen, where life will take you and what will come up in your life.” He then mentioned, how important it is to stay patient and pay close attention to the opportunities that arise.

I get so lost in the thought of the future and I think that we all do it. We tend to worry and at times it can affect our daily life and our current responsibilities. I have come to discover through President Eyring that it is not for us to worry about what is going to happen.

Life has seasons. I’m not talking about the four weather seasons. I’m talking about where we are in life. You may be in a new career season. Or a loss of a job season and you’re looking for work. A starting a family season. A newly wed season. Or like me, I am in the family season and finishing up my degree season. We can’t worry about the next season or what is next in our life. Focus on the now, live in the now! It’s okay to have future plans and goals but don’t let those future plans and goals overshadow or take away from our current responsibilities.

“To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose…” -Ecclesiastes 3:1.

We have no clue on what the future holds. We don’t know. I don’t know. You don’t know. Sure we may have future goals and ideas, but those can change. We have to keep our eyes and heart open to the opportunities that come our way. Too often people miss opportunities that come because we get so caught up on focusing on a sole plan that we end up missing things. I think that one of the definitions of success is the ability to make difficult choices and act on the unknown. I️ firmly believe that life is always throwing opportunities our way, sometimes we miss them, or we don’t seem to believe that it is an opportunity, or we are just flat out afraid to do anything about it. Do not fear or be hesitant about new opportunities. The future is only going to be as bright as your faith. Trust in time and simply just believe that if you stay the course and are willing to be patient, you will be led to know what you are to do.

So, quit worrying about the future, because it is out of your control. Live in the now and try to find joy in this journey that we call life.

“Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.” – John Wooden

Welcome to My Site!

Welcome to My Site!

jeremy-bishop-207402

Welcome to my site! This post is all about an introduction to my purpose for creating a website. My posts will all be centered around self-improvement, personal development, self-growth, whatever personal category you want to call it, it’s all centered around helping the individual (you!), grow as a person.

Everyone is different. We are all so different from one another. That’s what makes this category of self-improvement great because I think in all of us, there is a call to do better and to be better. Sometimes we heed the call and act on it and sometimes we push it aside. As human beings, there is a feeling within us of becoming better, improving a skill, learning something new, and overcoming a bad habit or past mistake. It’s always going to be up to you, whether you will do it or whether you will not. No one can make that choice for you. If you want to improve and grow, you must do it yourself! You can read hundreds of books and hundreds of online articles about self-improvement, but unless you act on the thoughts that you receive you’ll just stay stagnant and most likely move backward. I believe in taking action, believing, committing and heeding the call to become better and do better. Always pressing forward.

Self-improvement is all about the individual. It’s personal and my goal for my website is to make it personal. Not every article that I publish is going to work for you because everyone is different. But, the goal is that in every article the reader (you!) will learn something and be able to have some “ah-ha” moments.
